My favourite musician, actor, athlete*, artist or writer

Dear 6A student,

Here is your task new task for blogging. I am sure some of you have missed it a lot! :)

Write a blog posting about somebody you like - your favourite musician, actor, athlete, artist, or writer.

Just like it was in the stories about David Copperfield and Eminem, you can talk about these things:

  1. When and where was she / he born?
  2. How was her / his family like?
  3. What did she / he do when she / he was young?
  4. How did she / he become famous?
  5. Why do you like her / him?

Write at least 15 sentences.

Then, add pictures and / or videos to your blog post.

The title of your posting: "My favourite ..." (musician / actor / athlete / artist / writer).

If it happens that you cannot do a blog posting for some reason, please send your text to me as an e-mail. Make sure to add the links (lisa lingid) to photos and / or videos, too.

Please pay attention to spelling and grammar. Also, please make logical paragraphs (loogilised lõigud) to your story. If you need, you can use online Estonian-English dictionaries, for example this one: http://aare.pri.ee/dictionary.html.

Looking forward to your postings!

Play and learn

Your task today is to play and learn on the websites that you got to know yesterday: LearnEnglish Kids and LearnEnglish. You can choose any games and tasks you like there and do them.

While playing, please take a look at new words that you see anywhere on these sites - in games, in instructions or anywhere else on these pages. Use the dictionary to translate them.

At the end of the lesson, please write a blog post with at least 10 new words that you have got to know. Write these words both in English and in Estonian. If there are two of you at one computer, please do one wordlist for two. As the title, write your names and then wordlist from games. For example: Triin's and Kati's wordlist from games.

Also, in the blog post, please say the names of the games that you played.

In case you can't log in to your blog, please e-mail me your wordlist at triin.noorkoiv@tyhg.edu.ee.

You will get a grade for your lesson work.

See you next week, dears!

Welcome to the New Year of blogging!

The time has come to sweep the dust* from our blogs, which we haven't used for quite some time already! :) Here are the tasks for your today's English lesson in the computer lab.

1. Take a brief** look at these two websites and choose one of them, which you would like to focus on:
a) LearnEnglish
b) LearnEnglish Kids

2. Your main question to answer is this:

HOW CAN YOU USE THIS WEBSITE FOR LEARNING ENGLISH - DURING THE LESSONS OR AT HOME?

By the end of the lesson, please come up with at least 4 ideas and write them on your blog: think of 2 ideas for the lessons and 2 ideas for home use.

After each idea, please write also the reasons why you like this activity and think we should do it.

Be as concrete*** as possible, copy-paste the exact links**** for what we could listen & watch, read & write, play or make.

Make sure that you know how much time you have during the lesson so that you can finish this task. Every student will get a grade for this lesson's work.

Blogging instructions: as the title of your blog post, write the name of the website you are talking about.

NB! If you don't understand some words on these pages, you can use the help of this dictionary. Type the English word you don't know into the box named 'english'. If there is an Estonian word you would like to translate into English, write it in the box named 'estonian'.

For listening, you can use your earphones. Ask teacher Hanna to help you use them.

HAVE FUN! :)

* sweep the dust - tolmu pühkima
** brief - põgus
*** concrete - konkreetne
**** link - viide (st internetiaadress)

A new idea: Correcting stories

Based on Eric's idea (thank you very much for it!! :), we are having a new voluntary (vabatahtlik) project.

To participate in this project (et sellest projektist osa võtta), there are two ways:
  1. Write a story where you spell words wrongly and post it to your blog. As the title (pealkiri) of your post please put this: Correct my story - so that others can find it easily! If you have written such kind of a story, please put a comment about it also to this post here.
  2. Correct a story where there are words that are wrongly spelled. Copy-paste the original story that your classmate has written to the comments field (kommentaaride väljale) of that post. Then correct it - write the words which had wrong spelling correctly, but make the letters in that word capital letters (SUURTÄHED).
Looking forward to reading and correcting stories! :)

How to put a clock on your blog?

Many of you were interested in putting a clock on your blog (something like the animal faced clock you see on this blog here). Here are the instructions! :)

1. Choose a clock
There are many websites that offer (pakkuma) blog clocks. Here are just some of them (you can Google more):

2. Find its code
If you have found a clock that you like, you need to get its code (kood - kella programmeerimiskeelne kirjutis). It is sometimes called 'embed code' or something like that. Copy that code for yourself: mark all the code and then press ctrl + c or click on it with mouse's right button and choose copy.

3.  On your blog, open the page that is called Design.
You need to sign in to your blog before, if you haven't done it yet.

4. Find a link called Add a Gadget and click on it.
A little new window opens.

5. Click on the blue coloured + next to HTML/JavaScript.
In a window that opens, you can add the title (for example: Clock or whatever you want to have :)
For the content, please paste the code that you copied earlier (you can press ctrl + v or click on it with mouse's right and button and choose paste).

6. Save

THAT'S IT! :)
If you have any questions, put them as comments to this posting here.
